Improving Care Team Communication to Reduce Failure to Treat among Critically Ill Surgical Patients

Project: Research project

Project Details

Description

We will study pre- and post- intervention rates of timeliness of initiation of treatment of hyperglycemia, hypercoagulability and severe protein calorie malnutrition among critically ill surgical patients and associated complications. We will measure the timeliness of initiation of treatment of hyperglycemia, hypercoagulability and severe protein calorie malnutrition among critically ill surgical patients. Initiation of treatment will be divided into three measures. We will use the NM EDW to identify (1) Failure to treat or whether treatment was initiated; (2) When treatment was initiated with respect to ICU admission; (3) When treatment was adequate to prevent complication. The latter will be defined based on serologic measurements, such as blood glucose.
