Mechanisms of Recovery from Viral Pneumonia

Project: Research project

Project Details

Description

Recovery from viral pneumonia is a clinically important yet understudied process. Despite advances in supportive care and treatment with anti-viral medications, influenza A-induced ARDS carries a mortality of rate~40%. By linking causal mechanistic studies in cell and murine models, with broncho-alveolar samples from patients with severe viral pneumonia, this PPG seeks to identify mechanisms that promote the successful transition from the initial deleterious phases of acute lung injury to the later phases of resolution and lung repair in influenza A virus-infected lung.
