Description
A core mission of Northwestern University (NU) is to educate and inspire talented, driven students, regardless of their financial circumstances. The University endeavors to equip these students with the curricula, experiences, and connections needed for them to serve as leaders following their time at NU. The Comer Scholars program exemplifies this combination of education and engagement, bringing top-flight Masters of Science in Journalism candidates from around the nation to the Medill School of Journalism, Media, Integrated Marketing Communications, where they study techniques for reporting science, the environment and climate change. This program has been a clear success, and it has inspired us to aim for even greater objectives. By incorporating the lessons we’ve learned from the first round of the Comer Scholars, we believe that we can recruit an even stronger group of environmental journalists and further improve their training, with an aim towards making the Comer Scholars program an elite, transformative force for the field of environmental journalism. We ask that the Comer Family Foundation consider a renewal request for $603,403, paid over three years, to fund our shared, bold vision for a new cohort of Comer Scholars.
