Multimodal Retinal Functional Imaging for Diabetic Retinopathy

Project: Research project

Project Details

Description

H. Zhang will be responsible for developing and optimizing the integrated photoacoustic ophthalmoscopy (PAOM) and optical coherence tomography (OCT) for OCT functional imaging of retinal hemoglobin oxygen saturation (using multi-wavelength PAOM) and retinal blood flow (using Doppler OCT). As a result, the retinal metabolic rate of oxygen will be derived. A. Fawzi will be focusing on optimizing and finalizing the protocols for generating oxygen-induced retinopathy rat and streptozotocin-induced diabetic rat models. H. Zhang and A Fawzi will then work together to evaluate the retinal hemoglobin oxygen saturation, retinal blood flow, and retinal metabolic rate of oxygen variations in these models.
