Project Details
Description
This proposal requests funding for general operating expenses for Professor Papachristos’ N3 Initiative. The Northwestern Neighborhood & Network Initiative (N3) will be an incubator for new ways that faculty and experts at Northwestern can engage communities, civic partners, and policy makers to address core problems facing the residents of Chicago and surrounding communities. Specific projects and types of engagement will be linked by a focus on how the contours of social networks, geographic communities, and the constellation of groups, organizations, and civic partners shape individual and aggregate outcomes relating to public safety, crime, violence, and policing in Chicago. The N3 Initiative will work with communities and organizations in Chicagoland to better understand how these relationships among people and neighborhoods affect what we feel, think, and do—and how understanding, building, and leveraging this sort of network thinking can improve neighborhoods, the city, and our region.
