Professor Mirkin and his team have developed the foundational tools and techniques to enable the creation of exotic new nanomaterials and have shown that their methods have the potential to screen these materials quickly and determine the optimal compositions. With support from the Sherman Fairchild Foundation, Professor Mirkin will build upon his promising discoveries to develop a revolutionary approach called nanocombinatorics, and use this method to unravel the ‘materials genome.’ Initial research will focus on creating and identifying new and highly efficient catalytic materials, but the impact of this proposed research will be felt well beyond catalysis and energy sciences, extending to any field where new nanomaterials can make a difference. This project promises to open the door to the discovery of exciting new high-performance materials with the potential to advance and transform energy production, environmental remediation, health care, computing technology, and homeland security.
