Networks Underlying Visual Modulation of Speech Perception

Project: Research project

Project Details

Description

Title: Networks underlying visual modulation of speech perception

Background Information: Aim 2 includes the acquisition of diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) data acquired from typically developing individuals in order to study individual differences in network connectivity as they relate to behavioral metrics of auditory-visual speech integration.

Scope: Acquisition of the DTI data for Aim 2 began this summer at Northwestern University funded by the K99 portion of this award. As Aim 2 requires an individual differences analysis approach, the goals of Aim 2 will be best accomplished by completing DTI scans for this Aim on the same MRI scanner across all participants. This would prevent the introduction of extraneous noise by comparing subjects across multiple MRI scanners which can lead to reduced sensitivity to detect effects of interest. This sub-contract will cover the costs of subject payments for both the behavioral and DTI sessions, as well as the costs of DTI scans for each participant.

Objectives: To complete the acquisition of behavioral data and DTI scanning for 20 participants at Northwestern University.

Services to be Performed: Dr. Satoru Suzuki, Ph.D. will facilitate the collection of behavioral and DTI data from 20 typically developing individuals at Northwestern University. The contractor shall independently perform all work and furnish all labor, materials, supplies, equipment, and services (except as otherwise specified in the contract) to perform the following services:
1. Recruit 20 typically developing participants
2. Perform behavioral testing as described in the R00 proposal
3. Acquire DTI scans for these participants
4. Provide unrestricted access of these data to Dr. David Brang for the purpose of completing Aim 2 of the R00 research.

Location of Work: This work will be performed at Northwestern University.
