Neurobiologic Substrates of SuperAging and the Preservation of Cingulate Cortex

Project: Research project

Project Details

Description

This proposal aims to identify features of cingulate cortex in SuperAgers might serve as neurobiological substrates underlying preserved memory in old age. Aim 1 will quantitate features of post-mortem cingulate including neuronal counts, markers of plaques and tangles, and VEN counts in SuperAger and control specimens, described below. To elucidate the neuroanatomical basis of preserved memory, Aim 2 will analyze relationships between histopathologic features of post-mortem cingulate and cognitive test performance.
