Nonlinear dynamics of colloidal rotors: chaos and order

Project: Research project

Project Details

Description

This proposal is concerned with an analytical and numerical investigation of the electrohydrodynamics of particles in confinement. Specifically, our proposal considers particles placed between two planar electrodes and seeks to determine the field-driven particle assembly. These are mathematically challenging multiphase and multibody problems with application to the study of active fluids (suspensions of motile colloids) and the development of new functional materials with designer geometries.
