Description
Objective
The goal of our Operation RESTORE allocation is to characterize novel rodent models in extremity transplantation. Given current interest in human extremity transplantation, the level of expertise in the Microsurgical Core within the Northwestern Comprehensive Transplant Center (CTC) allows us to develop these labor intensive procedures. Subsequently, we will ascertain the immunological mechanisms operating in such an experimental model. A subsequent goal is to expand our liver and kidney engineering strategies, already supported through RESTORE, to investigate stem cell applications using federally approved human and rodent embryonic stem cell lines and induced pluripotent stem cells to generate engineered organs and tissues.
