Project Details

Description

Northwestern University will collaborate with the University of Illinois PAGES project to assist in professional development design and enactment. Northwestern University will engage in the following components of work for the PAGES project: Year 1 PD: Northwestern staff will assist UI staff in designing and running a two-week professional development program for PAGES teachers in Summer 2016 to familiarize them with the key shifts in NGSS, and the storyline approach to developing three-dimensional curriculum materials. The PD will use the NGSX online system (Next Generation Science Exemplar System), developed in prior work. NGSX PD Unit for Learning Progression 1: The Northwestern NGSX team will work with UI staff to develop an NGSX unit related to the science and pedagogy of the first learning progression units (LP1). The work will include initial taping of classroom activities to begin design of PD units (year 1), piloting PD activities (summer 2017), collecting video of revised curriculum activities (year 2), and piloting a full PD unit for the learning progression (summer 2018). NGSX PD Unit for Learning Progression 2: The Northwestern NGSX team will work with UI staff to develop an NGSX unit related to the science and pedagogy of the second learning progression units (LP2). The work will include initial taping of classroom activities to begin design of PD units (year 3), piloting PD activities (summer 2019), collecting video of revised curriculum activities (year 4), and piloting a full PD unit for the learning progression (summer 2020).
