Pediatric HIV/AIDS Cohort Study (PHACS): 2020

Project: Research project

Project Details

Description

Data collection: For the YPHEU participants, we will collect neuroimaging, mental health, cognitive and risk-taking behavior data at baseline and at 2-year follow-up. For the YAPHEU and YAPHIV participants, we will collect one-time neuroimaging, mental health, cognitive, risk-taking behavior and adult transition milestone data at study entry.Data analysis:We will analyze all data to compare neural networks supporting emotional regulation with NIH-funded data on normal populations. We will relate brain network measures with measures on mental health, cognition, risk-taking behavior, and adult transition milestones when appropriate. Within the YPHEU group, we will also examine the impact of perinatal ARV, structural and social vulnerability and protective factors. The project will lead to a greater understanding of the neurodevelopmental mechanisms underlying the clinical course in these populations and could help identify high risk subgroups in the future.
