Performance Sustainment in Polar Operations

Project: Research project

Project Details

Description

The Navy Arctic Roadmap promulgated by the Chief of Naval Operations Admiral Greenert states that the US Navy must consider the rapidly changing Arctic for developing future policy, strategy, force structure and investment. Of note, naval operations in polar regions have been historically limited to relatively short-term missions, outside of ongoing S&T opportunities. Given the paucity of basic and applied scientific research investigating management of the circadian system to mitigate fatigue and sleep disruption during exposures to extreme photoperiods found at high latitudes, this study represents a timely and proactive approach to performance sustainment.
