Preventing Opioid Misuse through Safe Opioid Use Agreements between Patients and Surgical Providers (PROMISE ME)

Project: Research project

Project Details

Description

Despite recent efforts to decrease the number of pills prescribed following surgery, patients continue to have a significant number of pills left over when their acute pain resolves. These excess pills too often end up being consumed for non-medical indications or diverted to individuals other than the intended user creating a significant patient safety problem. We will test the effect of an opioid use agreement to prevent misuse and opioid-related harm in the surgical setting.
