Description

Overview: We would like to obtain partial funding for the Program Large N methods in Kahler geometry, to be held at the Simons Center for Geometry and Physics from April 20 to June 19, 2015. The core funding of the Program is provided by the Simons Center for Geometry and Physics. The aim of this proposal is to ask for an additional funding in order to help diversify the body of participants of the program, to include nontenured young researchers, women, minorities and other underrepresented groups. Intellectual Merit : The focus of the program is at the interface between the geometry and mathematical physics. This program centers on the use of holomorphic sections of high powers of positive Hermitian holomorphic line bundles over a Kahler manifold to construct projective embeddings, Bergman Kahler metrics, and Gaussian random fields. The main tool is the Bergman kernel and its large N asymptotics, on and off the diagonal. Its asymptotics has many applications in geometry, probability theory and mathematical physics. The program will bring together mathematicians and physicists working in the field of K?ahler geometry, probability and mathematical physics. The list of invited participants includes about twenty well-known scientists and young researchers from all over the world. The intellectual focus of the Simons Center for Geometry and Physics is in enhancing interactions between geometry and theoretical physics. The SCGP and closely related Mathematics and Physics departments of the Stony Brook University are world-leading institutions in the field of geometry and theoretical physics, relevant. A dozen local faculty and young researchers will take part in the program. All this makes the Center to be most suitable place for hosting this program. Broader Impacts : The lectures and seminars, presented at the program, will be recorded and made available on the web site of the Simons Center for Geometry and Physics through open access. One of the main goals of the program is to invite and provide training for junior researchers (graduate students and junior postdocs) starting in the related fields. To this end, we plan several introductory lecture series by prominent mathematicians and physicists on the topics of the program. The NSF funding will allow us to cover the travel and lodging expenses of younger participants. Spending up to a month in the stimulating environment among some of the world-leading scientists in the fields of geometry and theoretical physics, will inspire many beginning researchers, including minorities and members of the underrepresented groups.
