    Description of Work: NORTHWESTERN will assist EWMI in implementing the Promoting Rule of Law in Georgia Activity (PROLoG), funded by USAID. In particular, NORTHWESTERN will assist to promote respect for and the protection of human rights in Georgia by engaging in the following activities: I) Professional Training. NORTHWESTERN will work with EWMI staff in Georgia, Georgian experts, and the European Human Rights Advocacy Centre (EHRAC) to improve the human rights training programs currently being taught at Georgia's judicial training institute (the High School of Justice, or HSOJ) and at the Georgia Bar Association (GBA). This work might include developing and delivering CLE courses, materials and other activities. 2) Academic Assistance. NORTHWESTERN will provide support to PROLoG in the development of human rights courses and other related activities at Georgian law schools. The work would focus on Georgia's obligations under European and ECHR law, and U.N. Treaties and Conventions. 3) Strategic Litigation. NORTHWES1ERN will work with EWMI staff in Georgia, Georgian experts, and Northwestern, to provide mentoring to the Georgian Young Lawyers Association (GYLA), Transparency International (TI) or others with regard to strategic litigation that they conduct before the Georgian courts, the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) and U.N. human rights bodies. The topics for such strategic litigations could include due process guarantees, ethnic minority rights, the rights of women, and the rights of sexual minorities, among other topics. EWMI and NORTHWES1ERN will agree on more specific scopes of work for each trip to Georgia or other activity undertaken as a part of the PROLoG activity. Expected Results: Increased respect for human rights within the Georgian judiciary and legal community.
