Racial difference in the prescription of novel oral anticoagulants, warfarin and risk of stroke and bleeding by geographic region in patients with atr

Project: Research project

Project Details

Description

The wide-spread adoption of electronic healthcare records (EHRs) data and the vital patient information present in EHR data provide an exceptional opportunity to understand racial disparity in the prescription of medications and comorbid conditions.47 The wide geographic coverage of the CDRNs of PCORnet, provides unique opportunity to identify candidate patients for OAC treatment, investigate racial disparity in the prescription of OAC by geographic regions, and understand the correlation between racial disparity in the prescription of OAC and risk of stroke across the Unites States. Findings from this study will generate essential knowledge that can be useful for the implementation of region specific interventions targeted at increasing the use of oral anticoagulation in AF patients.
