Over 3 million Americans who have a cardiac implantable electronic device (CIED) may not benefit from a standard cardiac MRI, because of severe image artifacts induced by CIED, heart rhythm disorders, and/or difficulty with breath-holding during imaging in this patient population. We have developed a unique suite of novel cardiac MRI methods that is capable of producing high-quality, artifact-free images of patients implanted with a CIED for diagnosing new or worsening symptoms of heart disease, predicting the likely course of heart disease, or guiding therapy. The long-term goal of this proposal is to increase the value of cardiac imaging in our healthcare system by improving the quality and expanding the applicability of cardiac MRI for patients with a CIED.
