Redesigning Transplant Organ Labeling

Project: Research project

Project Details

Description

The goal of this project is to bring together representatives from UNOS, local organ procurement organizations (OPOs) such as the Gift of Hope (GoH) Organ & Tissue Donor Network (not-for-profit OPO that coordinates organ and tissue donation in Illinois and northwest Indiana) as well as staff and clinicians from Northwestern University/NMH/NMFF to assess and redesign organ labeling. In Phase I, using FMECA methodology, the organ procurement, labeling, and tracking process will be documented and assessed. In Phase II, the research team will use laboratory-based simulation technology to conduct usability tests of potential technological interventions/solutions to issues identified in the process. This will inform the development of future procurement tracking-labeling technologies and results of the usability tests will be provided in a formal report to the funding organization.
