Retinal Oximetry as a Diagnostic Tool for Diabetic Retinopathy

Project: Research project

Project Details

Description

The purpose of the project is to determine if an advanced, hyperspectral-driven, retinal oximetry system can detect hypoxic changes in the retina of patients with diabetes. Prior studies have proven the accuracy hyperspectral oximetry measurements on blood samples4, as well as on the retinas of healthy patients3. We hope to extend this field of research further by comparing the retinal oximetry of a healthy population to one with ischemic retinal disease and identify markers of early disease onset and retinal compromise.
