Role of myeloid cells in CNS and systemic reservoirs and rebound

Project: Research project

Project Details

Description

Preliminary experiments in the non-human primate model revealed that most of the detected SIV infected cells during the rebound phase after antiretroviral treatment interruption are of myeloid origin. The possible dependence of the reservoir on myeloid cell infection represents a previously unknown observation and needs further exploration to understand the mechanism of viral rebound and design successful strategies for HIV-1 cure.
