Simulation and measurement of RF heating of deep brain stimulation implants in OASIS vertical MRI systems

Project: Research project

Project Details

Description

We propose that vertical MRI scanners offer a new solution to the problem of safe DBS imaging that has been overlooked. We expect that the proposed research will verify these preliminary simulation results in larger patient cohorts and validate them experimentally. This contribution is significant because if we are successful, it will open the door to a plethora of structural and functional MRI applications to interpret and guide DBS therapy. Open-bore MRI was developed to facilitate interventional applications, offering an ideal platform for MR-guided neurosurgery, which could revolutionize DBS surgery.
