Description

The project will estimate the prevalence of RV-associated granulomas in normal, aged individuals with cutaneous granulomas and assess the frequency and intensity of virus shedding by these long-term RV carriers. Exhibit A, attached, MCW Protocol: Natural History Study of Rubella-Associated Granulomatous Lesions in Aged Individuals, will be followed. The subcontract is for Base Year, Phase I: to determine prevalence of granuloma disease in aged individuals. Prevalence estimates are used by epidemiologists, health care providers, and government agencies to identify causes and prevent additional cases. To estimate prevalence of RV-associated pathologies in practice, the subcontractor will select representative granuloma cases of unknown etiology in age group 18+ with available archival biopsy tissue blocks. Exhibit B, Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and Exhibit C - Detailed Instructions for Completing Rubella REDCap Instruments should be referenced to perform retrospective medical chart reviews and abstract data. Data collected will include the following elements: (1) Total number of granuloma cases that presented each year from January 1, 2005 to August 15, 2020 (2) Number of granuloma cases of unknown etiology each year from January 1, 2005 to August 15, 2020 (3) Characteristics of granuloma cases of unknown etiology (age of granuloma onset, duration of granuloma inflammation, pathological features) (4) Date of birth, Sex, age, and city of residence of patients with granuloma case of unknown etiology
