Project Details
Description
SGC has been awarded a Global Health Grant by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation (the "Foundation"), the charitable purpose of this grant being to support the Structure-guided Drug Discovery Coalition (“SDDC”), made up of leading structural genomics centers, academic and industrial medicinal chemists and infectious disease experts, who have agreed to pool resources to support drug discovery in a Partnership with Medicines for Malaria Ventures (“MMV”), the Global Alliance for TB Drug Development (“GATB”), pharmaceutical companies and other Foundation-funded programs, (the “Eligible Project”) as described in the proposal dated August 24, 2012 (Schedule A);
Institution has agreed to align its existing funding with the scientific objectives of the Foundation, MMV and the TB Drug Accelerator program, to carry out protein purification, crystallization, and structure determination of Mycobacterium and Plasmodium proteins from the SDDC-derived Target list. Using Institution’s own resources, your group will commit to efforts to obtain a 3D structure of the complex of a target and its natural ligand prior to engaging in the structure-guided drug discovery process. At the same time efforts will be made to screen your group’s proteins against chemical compound libraries to link whole-cell actives with a target protein.
