Description

For the WO period, Kenan Li will be working on the development and application of zone plate optics for x-ray microscopy studies. He will be carrying out simulations of the focusing properties of zone plates aimed at understanding the properties of stacking multiple zone plates together as required for the Advanced Photon Source (APS) Upgrade, and for operational responsibilities of the APS Optics group. He will begin to work on zone plate fabrication using the Center for Nanoscale Materials at Argonne, and the testing of zone plate focusing at the APS. His work will involve optics simulation and data analysis at Northwestern University, participation in occasional meetings at Argonne, and work at Argonne. His deliverables in the first year will include the following:
• Quarterly summaries of progress
• Python source code for simulating scalar wavefield propagation in 2D coordinates
• Demonstration Python code for 1D scalar wavefield propagation
• Demonstration of the ability to simulate the focusing effects of a single thin zone plate
