Support for Pufan Liu

Project: Research project

Project Details

Description

Pufan Liu, on the behalf of Northwestern University, working with Prof. Nathaniel Stern in the Department of Physics and Astronomy, will be working to develop photonic ring resonator notch filters for background reduction in astrophysical measurements. He will explore approaches for tailoring frequency response of integrated photonic devices with high throughput. He will be designing and fabricating silicon and silicon nitride based ring resonators using instrumentation at the Center for Nanoscale Materials (CNM) at Argonne. Testing and characterization of photonic devices will be performed at both Argonne and Northwestern University. He will utilize optics simulation at Argonne and Northwestern to guide design of photonic circuits with increasing numbers of resonators. His work will include participation in research meetings and activities at both institutions, as well as translation of fabrication capability to optical device research at Northwestern University.
