The interplay between HIV-1 and amyloid precursor protein in infection and neurotoxicity

Project: Research project

Project Details

Description

Our data suggests a novel hypothesis whereby APP processing through endolysomal pathways acts as a sensor of pathogens that exploit the endocytic or exocytic machinery of the cell, which we will test in Aim 1. Our data also shows that novel compounds termed secretase modulators (GSM’s) can regulate APP processing to both inhibit HIV-1 replication in macrophages/microglia and to suppress neurotoxic effects of amyloids, which we will test in Aim 2.
