The Role of the Gut Microbiome in Neointimal Hyperplasia After Arterial Injury

Project: Research project

Project Details

Description

The proposed research plan attains the goals of the Dixon Translational Research Grants Initiative Young Investigator Award in multiple ways. First, we anticipate that our research will ultimately lead to a novel paradigm-shifting therapy for the prevention of neointimal hyperplasia, the culprit of many vascular treatment failures. Secondly, our project involves a multidisciplinary and multi-institutional team of surgeons, vascular biologists, gastroenterologists, chemists, and microbiologists. Finally, the work supported by this grant will form the basis of translational studies to modulate gut microbiota in patients with vascular disease in order to improve outcomes following vascular interventions.
