Understanding the diffusion and impacts of educational technology: Evidence from Peru

This project will explore the diffusion and impact of an online math curriculum for grades 4 to 6 in Peru. The online curriculum has been specifically designed to provide remote learning in an equitable fashion and offer remedial education in preparation for school reopening. 187 schools from the lowest quintile of test scores in Metropolitan Lima will be randomly assigned to three treatment arms: an intensive teacher intervention that pairs teachers with a coordinator to assist with take-up and use, a low-cost teacher intervention that provides automated text messages to facilitate take-up and use, and a control group. In schools assigned to teacher interventions, one teacher in grade 4 and 6 will be randomly assigned to treatment. This enables the estimation of the diffusion of technology adoption within schools and allow for more precise estimates of impacts on student learning outcomes while accounting for spillovers.
