Project Details
Description
This project will look at federal policies designed to protect active service members, and consider ways that municipalities could consider similar measures to protect service members and veterans on a city or local level. While federal policies have been created to try and prevent or blunt some prospective adverse impacts that can affect service members while on duty – like foreclosures, credit penalties, eviction, etc. - many of these adverse impacts occur or are better monitored on a municipal level. This project will examine the federal policies, assess the state of municipal challenges for veterans, and identify prospective strategies that may better protect service members at local levels in a city like Chicago. The project will result in the production of a written report identifying main issues of consideration and prospective options for stronger municipal protections for active service members.
