title = "3D cell and tissue distribution patterns characterized by micro-CT",
abstract = "A non-destructive evaluation technique, X-ray micro-computed tomography (micro-CT), used to identify cells and to characterize cell and tissue distribution patterns in hydroxyapatite (HA) scaffolds was discussed. It was found that these scaffolds must be carefully characterized at multiple time points in an in vitro setting in order to understand the in vivo tissue integration process. The cells were distinguished from the scaffolds after as little as one day of in vitro culture. The results show that the non-destructive technique allowed samples to be studied quickly and it also gave an insight into more specific locations to study by using destructive and time consuming techniques such as histology.",
