Abstract

A general form fracture resistance curve, R-curve, is presented in this paper based upon the energy criterion of crack propagation determined by strain energy release rate. The R-curve is derived, in general, as the envelope of a set of strain energy release rate curves of same size and geometry but with different initial crack lengths.
