Abstract
A prototype knowledge-based system for assisting in the creation of FM synthesis timbres is described. The system makes use of a production system interpreter, knowledge of synthesis organized into frames, and a knowledge acquisition system based on inductive inference. This architecture allows the system to expand its knowledge base as it is used, and to mold itself to the timbral-conceptual network of a user. The abilities, limitations, and future directions of the system are reviewed.
