Abstract

The calculation of outage probabilities which is due to polarization-mode dispersion (PMD) was discussed. Monte Carlo method was used for simulation of PMD. Results showed that Monte Carlo technique provides a natural and effective mean to measure PMD-induced impairments in optical transmission systems and at realistic bit-error rates.
