Abstract

A solution for an interface edge crack whose surfaces experience no tangential slip is presented. At the crack tip, KI is found to be identical to that for a surface crack in a homogeneous medium. Moreover, the shear stress is singular both at the surface and at the crack tip, with Kn at the crack tip being equal to -βKI, where β is Dundurs’ constant. The crack opening displacements were calculated using a successive approximation scheme, which shows remarkable speed of convergence in this case.
