    Abstract

    A priori estimates are obtained for the traction problem of isotropic linear viscoelasticity. In these inequalities, energy-like integral measures of the viscoelastic strain are bounded by integrals of the surface tractions and body force. In the case of zero body force, these estimates lead immediately to pointwise bounds for the strain. They also have bearing on the problem of extending Saint-Venant's principle to viscoelasticity.
