Abstract

Dyspareunia and vaginismus are painful conditions for which patients consult gynecologists. When these conditions are functional rather than organic, they can often be effectively treated with acupuncture as a form of traditional Chinese medicine. It is important to include in the patient's case, reeducation and/or psychotherapy for behavioral and psychical components. In this paper, we discuss the two conditions from both the Western medicine approach and that of traditional Chinese medicine. We also give specific prescriptions for acupuncture treatment of both conditions.
