Abstract

The design of nanoscale dielectric structures for photonic applications was explored using adaptive algorithms. The complementary approaches were discussed: the first approach uses adaptive local random updates and adjusts individual dielectric layer widths while the second approach is based on global updating functions in which subgroups of layers are adjusted simultaneously. The local random update approach uses each barrier width as an adjustable parameter.
