Alkylation of [N(SPPh2)(SPPh2)]-, [N(SePPh2)(SePPh2)]-, and [N(SPPh 2)(SePPh2)]-

Abstract

A facile synthesis is described in which the compounds N(SPPh 2)(CH3SPPh2), N(SePPh2)(CH 3SePPh2), N(SPPh2)(CH3SePPh 2), N(SePPh2)(NCCH2SePPh2), and N(SPPh2)(NCCH2SePPh2) have been obtained in good yield by alkylation of [N(QPPh2)2]- (Q = S or Se) or [N(SPPh2)(SePPh2)]- with CH 3I or ClCH2CN in CH3OH at room temperature. These compounds have been characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction and NMR spectroscopic techniques. All five compounds have similar structures in which a CH3 or NCCH2 moiety is bonded to an S or preferentially an Se atom of an anion to form a neutral molecule.
