In summary, we have demonstrated phase-insensitive loading of picosecond pulses irito an all-optical storage buffer using cross-phase modulatiori. With high-repetition-rate sources,‘ storage of tens of kbits should be possible. 111 addition, XPM loading with data pulses of a different wavelength would be possible, making this device a potential buffer for use in high-speed optical networks. This work was supported in part by the DARPA under the MURI program.
