Abstract

The 53rd Annual Meeting of the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases (AASLD) took place in Boston between November 1st and 5th, 2002. Over 2000 abstracts were accepted for publication, with approximately 1000 presented in poster or oral form at the meeting. The main topics included novel drug therapy and clinical trials for the management of chronic hepatitis B and C. Other drug development topics included the future of immunosuppressive therapy following liver transplantation and advances in gene therapy. The meeting was extremely well attended and informative. This report will review the important new developments in drug therapy for patients with liver disease.
