Abstract

The affinity of trace metals for sediment carbonate phases has been investigated by a bulk titration procedure. Determination of carbonate-bound trace metals was performed assuming that their concentrations in the aqueous phase are significantly correlated with Ca during extraction. The influences of chemical reagents (NaAcHAc) and the precipitation of secondary phases are discussed as well as the possibilities of simultaneous adsorption-desorption processes. Amongst the metals Cd, Cu, Fe, Mn, Pb and Zn, only Cd and Mn emphasize a significant relationship with Ca.
