Abstract

The design and performance of an electron-impact ion beam reflectron system coupled to 'single-photon infrared emission spectrometer' for measurement of infrared emission from excited gas-phase polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAH) cations. IR emission was attributed to cationic species generated by electron impact of pyrene vapor. Infrared emission spectra of gaseous ionized PAHs was compared with the unidentified infrared emission bands.
