Anomalous behavior of low-energy analog double charge exchange

Recent measurements of double charge exchange cross sections for analog transitions in 14C, 18O, 26Mg and 42Ca reveal a dramatically different A-dependence at T(π) = 50 MeV than is found at the resonance energies. The observation is not easy to understand in terms of the present theories of pion DCX. A critical discussion of the data and the existing theoretical models is presented.
