Abstract
The optimal heat flux profile for a packed tubular reactor with significant radial gradients has been estimated, using a suboptimal hybrid method which employs both lumped- and distributed-parameter equations. Improvements in yields compared to the one-dimensional approach are significant, with approximately half the computational effort of the two-dimensional procedure.
