Abstract

Energy costs and shortages have forced consideration of electric power conservation measures. Some of these measures require specialized communication systems for load control, rate incentives and consumer information. This paper will describe the communication-related conservation measures and discuss the necessary communication technologies. It is likely that several communication technologies will contribute to automation and control since different portions of the electric power distribution system will have unique communication requirements.
