Abstract
An approximate method used for solving the whispering gallery modes in a microdisk is presented. Using this method, it was observed that for cavity Q values of unity the β value of a microdisk laser was as large as 0.1-0.2 with an appropriate disk diameter and thickness. The consistence of the obtained result is determined by comparing it with the estimates from experimental data.
