Abstract
We have developed an automated system to perform registration of medical images in three-dimensional (3-D), with accuracy on the order of the pixel sizes. This new approach attempts to integrate anatomical and/or functional information from images acquired by different modalities or at different times without manual operations. This method has been applied to registration of images acquired from X-ray computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), and positron emission tomography (PET).
