Beam splitting at the reflection of elastic waves by a periodic surface profile

Abstract

Theoretical and experimental results are presented which exhibit the splitting of a beam of elastic waves into two beams, on reflection at a traction-free surface of periodic profile. The beam splitting is more pronounced for a narrower incident beam and for frequencies close to a resonance frequency of the profile.
