Abstract
Some implications of a scale invariant model of statistical mechanics to Boltzmann entropy in thermodynamics versus Shannon entropy in information theory are investigated. The objective versus subjective nature of entropy as well as the fundamental significance of the choice of Shannon measure K as Boltzmann constant k is described. In addition, the impact of the results on Nernst-Planck statement of the third law of thermodynamics is discussed.
